Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino gambling is not legal. Eight casinos are based in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, contains 150 slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that highlights numerous luxuries on top of the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
