Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English | Deutsch | Español | Français | Italiano ]

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not legal. Eight casinos are based in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are allegedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship casino, features one hundred and fifty slots and sixty table games. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel complex that highlights many conveniences in addition to the casino, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
