Cambodia Casinos

There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is illegal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge casino, contains one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that contains numerous comforts accompanying the gambling den, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
